Bunny hopping is a form of advanced movement in First-Person Shooters (FPS). Bunny hopping originates all the way back from Quake in the 1990s. Nowadays, in competitive FPS games like Valorant, Bunny hopping is used to increase speed. At Least, we thought it did.

Bunny hopping does not actually increase speed in Valorant! Valorant does not have the “code” which enables Bunny hopping. This is why Bunny hopping is a relic of the past when it comes to games built on newer engines.

Bunny hopping is a technique in which a player attempts to gain momentum through air strafing. This is possible because the player can increase their velocity while in the air without a limitation. At least in games based on the Source engine.

To be precise, Bunny hopping is the consequence of a one-frame window between jumping and hitting the ground. In this window, “Sv_friction” is not applied on the player model.”Sv_friction” is a console command in source games, where if a character air strafes properly, they don’t face friction. When this one-frame window is exploited, it’s possible to gain velocity. This whole exploit is only possible on Source engine games (think CS:GO).

On the contrary, Valorant is built on Unreal Engine 4. Unreal Engine 4 does not have this caveat to begin with. As a result, when you Bunny hop in Valorant, you do not gain any significant momentum. It’s proven to be faster to run with a knife out than to Bunny Hop in Valorant. Whereas the air strafing movement involved is a crucial skill in higher ranks. We can definitively tell you Bunny Hopping does not increase speed in Valorant.
